Alliance Quebec Laval North Shore Chapter
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT

As part of its ongoing efforts to strive for human rights and language
minority rights, Alliance Quebec seeks the services of a dynamic individual
to visit major retail chain stores and other local merchants in the Laval
North Shore region to request that stores, in areas with significant English
speaking clients, post bilingual signs and provide English language
pamphlets and documentation for their customers. The selected candidate
will work part time from his or her home and part time from Alliance Quebec’
s head office in Montreal and will spend a considerable portion of his or
her time visiting stores. Duties include researching, contacting and
corresponding the individuals who set policies at company and supplier head
offices and regional offices. Alliance Quebec staff and the members of the
Laval North Shore Chapter will provide guidance and technical support.
However, the candidate will be expected to work independently with minimal
supervision.

Work Conditions:
– A 35-hour workweek for a duration of 8 weeks. Some flexibility will be
required and permitted.
– Remuneration is $8.00 per hour, plus expenses and an incentive bonus of
$50 for each major chain store that agrees to comply with our request (some
restrictions will apply).
– There is a possibility of extending the program for part time employment
during the school year.

Requirements:
– CEGEP or university student.
– Computer literate: MS Office
– Must be bilingual and able to compose letters in both English and French.
– The candidate will have to present a positive image, as he or she will be
representing a public lobby group to individuals who may not be sympathetic
to our goals.
– The candidate should be familiar with issues of particular concern to the
English-speaking communities and with the mission and role of Alliance
Quebec.

Additional Considerations:
Special consideration will be given to individuals who:
– live in the Laval or north shore region (Rosemere, Blainville,
St-Eustache, etc.);
– have occasional access to a vehicle, for field visits; (not mandatory)
– have access to a computer.
